In September, SubmitHub banned pure AI-generated music and rolled out a new genre detector in the same month. Founder Jason Grishkoff then published the results in a post titled "Analyzing September's genre shake-up." This episode walks through his numbers: AI-flagged submissions dropped 57 percent by count and fell from 14 percent of all submissions to 6.5 percent, while submissions that weren't AI-flagged rose 2.8 percent.
Josh covers what that means if you're an AI-assisted artist with finished songs, then gives you three questions to ask any curator, playlist, or submission service before you pay: Does a person actually listen? Is there a published disclosure? Does payment buy placement?
Then he turns those three questions on his own submission service, the Jukebox.
Disclosure: Josh still curates a few playlists on SubmitHub and runs the Jukebox.

You wrote the words and the melody. You sang a rough demo into your phone, uploaded it to Suno, and it came back with a full band behind you. So is it still your song?
Josh answers the question by taking the song apart. A song is a stack: composition at the bottom, then arrangement, performance, and finish. The layers tell you what you own. The decisions you make along the way tell you what you authored. Every rejected take, corrected lyric, and arrangement sent back for another pass is you writing.
He walks through what Suno's terms, effective September 3, 2026, say about uploads and generated output. Then he covers the full demo-upload workflow step by step, naming what you keep and what you hand over at each stage:
The demo goes in.
Suno builds the arrangement.
You pull stems.
You replace the AI vocal with your own.
You mix and master.
He closes on the one habit that turns the question from a feeling into a record: a provenance folder for every song.

Josh says it once, plainly, and spends the episode earning it: he doesn't care whether a song was made with AI. He cares whether it's good and whether it belongs where it's being sent. This is a values episode, a position held for a long time and finally said in one place, with no platform rule behind it and no news hook.
The argument comes from the desk. Josh masters generated tracks and home recordings and studio cuts with the same first listen, the same checklist, and the same tools, and he walks through what a generated track's fingerprints actually are (mix and arrangement problems he has heard on human tracks too). Then the second test, genre fit, and why the questions "is it good" and "does it fit" come with standards attached while "is it AI" sends the conversation out of the room. He closes on what he does care about, decisions, finish, and honesty with collaborators, and on the stance itself.

On September 9 every Suno model that existed the day before stopped generating, and three new ones took their place: v6, v6-wild, and v6-mini. The question everyone asked was which one. This episode replaces that question with a better one. Which model you belong in depends on how much you have already decided about the song before you generate. A specified target, with a genre, tempo, key, and arrangement, wants v6. An underspecified one, a mood or an era, wants wild. That is a JG BeatsLab rule, not Suno guidance.
Also in this episode: Suno's chief product officer described the polish bias in his own words at launch, the same drift the previous edition of Unlock Suno documented from the outside, and named v6-wild as the model built to push against it. Josh walks through what Red Lab has measured on wild so far, and where the measurements stop. Then the v6 style-prompt rewrite, and why "I specified it" and "the model received it" are no longer the same statement.

Suno launched v6 this morning. Three models, six new capabilities, and a licensing deal with Warner, BMG, and Believe. This episode covers what Suno actually confirmed, what's still unknown, and the one piece of news buried under the model announcement that matters more than the model itself: Believe reversed a ban on Suno-made tracks it put in place back in April.
