#152 The Individual Healing That Saved Our Marriage with Chance and Crystal

    26/03/2026 | 48min
Today we’re talking about something that can feel counterintuitive when a relationship is in crisis: slowing down and focusing on individual healing first. So many couples rush to fix the relationship, but sometimes the path forward starts with healing me before healing us.
I’m honored to be joined by Chance and Crystal, a couple who share their honest and powerful journey of how individual healing became the foundation for rebuilding trust, connection, and safety in their marriage. Together, we explore why couples work too early didn’t help, what each partner had to face on their own, how trauma responses shaped their relationship, and how nervous system regulation transformed the way they communicate.
Whether you’re a betrayed partner, a betraying partner, or a clinician supporting couples, this episode offers hope, wisdom, and a roadmap for what healing can look like when each person does their own work first.

#151 Why Apologies Aren’t Enough to Heal Betrayal Trauma

    19/03/2026 | 12min
Why doesn’t an apology fix betrayal trauma? If you’ve experienced infidelity, pornography addiction, or relational betrayal, you may have heard the words “I’m sorry” over and over… and yet still feel unsafe, unsettled, or unable to move forward.
In this episode, we explore a powerful truth:
Apologies matter—but they don’t heal betrayal trauma on their own.
Betrayal trauma isn’t just an emotional wound. It impacts the nervous system, the body, and your ability to trust what’s real. Healing requires more than words—it requires consistency, accountability, emotional presence, and time.
Whether you’re the betrayed partner wondering why you still hurt… or the partner who caused harm feeling confused about what else is needed… this episode will bring clarity, relief, and a grounded path forward.

#150 What Accountability Actually Means After Betrayal (And What It Doesn’t)

    12/03/2026 | 15min
Accountability is one of the most talked-about — and most misunderstood — parts of betrayal recovery.
For many couples healing after infidelity or sexual betrayal, the word accountability can feel loaded with fear: punishment, humiliation, endless judgment, or never being able to move forward.
But true accountability isn’t about being shamed.
    It’s about becoming trustworthy again.
In this episode of Choosing to Stay, Hali Roderick breaks down what accountability actually means after betrayal trauma, what it doesn’t mean, and why accountability is one of the most essential ingredients in rebuilding safety, trust, and long-term repair.
This conversation is especially powerful for partners who want to do better but don’t know how to stay present with the impact of what they’ve done — and for betrayed partners who are tired of carrying the emotional labor of recovery alone.

#148: Don’t Forget the Children: Betrayal Trauma’s Impact on the Family System

    26/02/2026 | 38min
Betrayal trauma is often talked about as a couple’s crisis, but betrayal is never contained to the marriage alone.
In this episode, Hali Roderick and her daughter Morgan Ellsworth explore the often-overlooked impact of parental betrayal on children and the entire family system.
As professionals in the betrayal trauma field, and as a mother and daughter who have firsthand experience, they invite listeners into an essential conversation on generational healing, witnessing, and family recovery.
They discuss how children often feel the impact of betrayal in the family, without the truth to give language to their experience. Without support, they often carry confusion, self-blame, and unprocessed grief into adulthood.
Together, they discuss how children often sit in an unaware and disempowered place and why compassionate witnessing, emotional validation, and developmentally appropriate disclosure are essential for restoring agency and safety.
Healing is messy. It is courageous. And it is possible across generations.
