The New York Knicks are two games away from their first NBA championship since 1973. The Knicks held on for a thrilling 105-104 Game 2 win against the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 NBA Finals on Friday night. They lead the series 2-0 thanks to two road wins and will now head to Madison Square Garden with a chance to potentially clinch a title.

 

The Spurs trailed by as many as 14 in the fourth quarter in Game 2 and stormed all the way back to take the lead in the waning minutes. However, in a tie game, Victor Wembanyama turned the ball over with nine seconds left and then missed a potential game-winning shot at the buzzer.

 

Karl-Anthony Towns scored a team-high 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting and grabbed 13 boards for the Knicks, who saw five players score at least 13 points. Jalen Brunson was not efficient, but he tallied 20 points on 25 shots and hit the game-winning free throw. Brunson stole the ball when Wembanyama threw an errant pass off the back of Stephon Castle. Wembanyama was looking to Castle for an outlet pass, but Castle's back was turned. Brunson was fouled by Wembanyama and knocked down his first free throw to give New York the lead.

 

Wembanyama finished with 29 points, with 22 of them coming in the second half. He had an and-1 with 57 seconds left that put the Spurs up by two points, but they would not score again.

 

San Antonio is just the third team to lose the first two games of the NBA Finals at home. The other two teams -- the 1993 Suns and 1995 Magic -- both lost the series.
