#3: Bringing 25 Years of Courtroom Experience to AI Governance

    13/10/2026 | 40min
Brian Harrell has spent 25 years in courtrooms as a civil litigator, and today he is managing partner for Louisiana at QPWB. When AI arrived, he recognized the same feeling he had in law school during the internet boom, when he watched a transformative technology go by without him. This time he decided he wasn't going to miss it.
Brian's path ran from a philosophy degree to Tulane Law School and a career trying cases. Two years ago he started teaching himself AI, from Figma collages of everything he could read to courses at Berkeley and LSE, and completed AI Career Pro's first AI governance practitioner cohort. He now co-founds InGlobo AI with his brother Scott, helping law firms adopt AI responsibly: Brian on governance and policy, Scott on technology and integration.
The conversation covers what clients are really asking lawyers about AI, why most firms underestimate what good governance takes, how a philosophy degree finally paid off, why lawyers make natural prompters, and what changed when he took the leap from knowing about AI governance to actually doing it.
If you are building a career in law or another established profession and wondering where AI governance fits, this is the episode of The AI Governor podcast for you.

#2: How much technical fluency do you need to govern AI?

    01/10/2026 | 35min
Oliver Patel studied philosophy of mind long before AI governance was a career. Today he leads enterprise AI governance at a global pharmaceutical company, and his answer to how much technical fluency you need is a practical one: enough to understand what your engineers are building and why, and enough hands-on use of AI to spot where it falls short.
Oliver's path ran from politics and a master's in philosophy and public policy at LSE, through research at UCL, to international data policy for the UK government, where he worked on keeping data flowing between the EU and the UK after Brexit. Then he moved from writing the rules to implementing them inside a global enterprise. He trains AIGP candidates, writes a widely read newsletter on enterprise AI governance, and is the author of the forthcoming book Fundamentals of AI Governance.
The conversation covers how much technical fluency you really need without a technology background, what it takes to build one framework across dozens of jurisdictions, how to govern without becoming the blocker, the three Gs he uses to govern AI at enterprise scale, why AI hallucinations are getting harder to spot rather than disappearing, and how the profession is broadening.
If you are coming to AI governance from outside technology, or already doing the work and trying to keep pace with how fast AI is spreading through your organization, this is the episode of The AI Governor podcast for you.

#1: You're not starting over in AI governance

    01/09/2026 | 28min
Ulas Ozguven spent 25 years in intrusion prevention, identity fraud protection and secure data rooms before AI governance existed as a career. His advice for anyone looking at the field: none of that was wasted, and moving into it isn't starting over.

Ulas is co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer of VerifyWise, an AI governance platform he runs from London with his co-founder Gorkem Cetin in Toronto - two people who, at the time of recording, had never met in person.

We talk about the pattern he only saw in hindsight, why AI governance is a bigger than cybersecurity, what organizations discover when they finally inventory their own AI, and why influence and judgement matter more than technical depth in this work.

    Chapters
00:00 AI governance is not a job pivot
01:36 Twenty-five years of deciding who to trust
03:28 From engineer to sales, and becoming the bridge
04:48 The school that was afraid of AI
06:42 Why AI is a harder problem than cybersecurity
    12:38 Geek, entrepreneur, humanist
14:12 Co-founders who have never met
16:12 Trust is competence, integrity and care
18:55 The AI you don't know you have
22:15 Why influence matters more than technical depth
25:09 Bring what you already have
26:31 Imposter syndrome, and the nine-month realization
