Genesis 42-50 - Joseph and His Brothers

    16/03/2026 | 3h 17min
Joseph’s brothers thought they had buried their secret in a pit decades ago. But when a global famine drives them to the feet of the most powerful man in Egypt, they discover that while you can hide from your past, you can't hide from God’s plan for your redemption.

Summary: In this final episode on the book of Genesis, we cover chapters 42–50. We witness the emotional climax of the Joseph saga and discover how one man’s integrity provided salvation for the entire House of Israel.

The Test of Character: We analyze why Joseph was so "hard" on his brothers at first. It wasn't revenge; it was a carefully designed test to see if they had truly repented of their treatment of him.

The Transformation of Judah: We look at the stunning moment Judah offers himself as a slave to save Benjamin—becoming a "surety" for his brother and a powerful type of Jesus Christ.

Reconciliation and Grace: We explore Joseph's perspective: "God did send me before you to preserve life." We learn how to move past bitterness by seeing the "big picture" of God’s providence.

The Blessings of Israel: We dive into Genesis 49, where Jacob blesses his twelve sons. We discuss the unique roles of the different tribes and the specific promises given to the "fruitful bough" of Joseph.

The Prophetic Connection: We conclude with the Joseph Smith Translation of Genesis 50, uncovering the ancient prophecy of a "choice seer" who would be named after his father and bring God’s people to salvation in the last days.

Call-to-Action: Joseph told his brothers, "Am I in the place of God?" when they feared his retaliation. Is there someone you need to release from the "prison" of your resentment? Genesis 37-41 - Joseph's Coat of Many Colors

    15/03/2026 | 3h 5min
He was the favorite son, destined for greatness, until his own brothers stripped him of his coat and sold him into slavery. If you’ve ever felt betrayed by those closest to you or wondered where God is in your darkest "pit," Joseph’s story is the roadmap you need.

Summary: In this deep dive into Genesis 37–41, we follow Joseph from the fields of Hebron to the dungeons of Egypt. We look past the colorful fabric of his coat to see the resilient character of a man who refused to let his circumstances dictate his relationship with God.

The Coat of Many Colors: We analyze the Hebrew "Ketonet Passim" and discover why this wasn't just a colorful garment, but a royal birthright robe that signaled Joseph’s future role as the provider for his family.

The Pit and the Prison: We explore the "descending" steps of Joseph's life and how his presence changed every environment he entered, from Potiphar's house to the king's prison.

Integrity Under Pressure: We study Joseph’s encounter with Potiphar’s wife. How do we flee temptation when it seems like "no one is watching"? Joseph shows us that our primary accountability is always to God.

The Power of Interpretation: We look at Joseph’s ability to see God’s hand in dreams—both his own and Pharaoh’s—and how he maintained his spiritual "vision" even when his physical sight was limited to prison walls.

Christ in Joseph: We conclude by highlighting the stunning parallels between Joseph and Jesus Christ—both rejected by their own, sold for silver, and ultimately becoming the "Saviors" of the world.

Call-to-Action: Are you in a "pit" or a "palace" right now? Regardless of where you are, how can you make sure "the Lord is with you" today? Share your thoughts in the comments! To keep your faith "Unshaken" through every season of life, please like, subscribe, and hit the notification bell.

Finding Faith Lesson #2 - The Why and the When

    07/03/2026 | 58min
On March 18, 2020, the ground literally shook in Salt Lake City, causing the trumpet to fall from the hand of the Angel Moroni. It was a physical wake-up call for a spiritual reality: our world—and our faith—will be shaken. The question isn't if the earthquake is coming, but whether your foundation is built on something that cannot be moved.

Summary: In this episode, we answer the "Why" of the "Finding Faith" course, exploring the deep symbolism of earthquakes in scripture to see why this kind of "shaking" is meant to symbolize life in the last days. Drawing from Revelation 6 and the "sixth seal," we analyze the nature of spiritual instability and the divine purpose behind the "shaking."

The Sixth Seal: We dive into the apocalyptic imagery of mountains moving and the heavens departing as a scroll. Who shall be able to stand when everything familiar is displaced?

The Salt Lake Earthquake: We reflect on the 2020 seismic event as a metaphor for the "shaking" of our modern institutions and personal certainties.

The Purpose of Shaking: Using Hebrews 12:27, we discuss how God allows the shaking to remove things that are temporary so that "those things which cannot be shaken may remain."

Building on Bedrock: We learn the difference between sand and rock, and how to ensure our "spiritual architecture" is built to withstand the "spectres of the mind".

Finding Power in the Night: We conclude with the hope that faith isn't just found in the light, but is forged and strengthened in the darkness of the "shake."

Genesis 24-36 - Patriarchs and Matriarchs

    05/03/2026 | 7h 2min
Is your family tree a bit... messy? If you feel like your life is full of sibling rivalry, deception, or "unanswered" prayers, you are in good company. From the tents of Isaac and Rebekah to the wrestling match at Peniel, the story of Jacob proves that God doesn't call perfect people—He transforms people who are willing to hold on until they receive a blessing.

Summary: In this massive study of Genesis 24–36, we follow the Covenant through three generations of trials, travels, and transformations. We look past the "Sunday School" versions of these stories to see the grit and grace required to stay on the Covenant Path.

Finding Rebekah: We analyze the decisiveness of Rebekah in Genesis 24—a woman who was willing to leave everything she knew for a promise she hadn't seen yet.

The Birthright Conflict: We dive into the controversial "deception" of Isaac. Was it a trick, or was Rebekah ensuring God's will was done? We explore the heavy price of prioritizing the temporal over the eternal.

Jacob’s Ladder: We break down the symbolism of the "stairway to heaven" at Bethel and how Jacob turned a cold stone pillow into a temple-like encounter with the Divine.

Leah and Rachel: We discuss the years of labor and the "comparative" heartbreak of Leah and Rachel, seeing how God remembers those who feel unloved.

Wrestling with God: We finish with the most pivotal moment in Jacob's life—his night-long wrestle. We learn that "Israel" means "Let God Prevail" and discover how we can also prevail through our trials.

Call-to-Action: Jacob had to return to "Bethel" to find his way again. Where is your "Bethel"? Where do you go when you need to remember your covenants? Let’s discuss in the comments! Genesis 18-23 - Abraham and Isaac

    25/02/2026 | 3h 59min
"Is any thing too hard for the Lord?" This is the question that defines the lives of Abraham and Sarah. From a biological impossibility to a heartbreaking command on a mountain top, their journey proves that God can bring life out of "deadness"—if we are willing to trust Him with everything.

Summary: In this episode, we study Genesis 18–23, following the "Father of the Faithful" and the "Mother of Nations" through their ultimate trials. We explore the transition from the joy of Isaac's birth to the gut-wrenching climb up Mount Moriah.

The Promise to Sarah: We look at the visit of the three messengers and the shift from Sarah's "laugh of doubt" to her "laugh of joy." We discuss how she received strength to conceive because she "judged him faithful who had promised".

The Sacrifice of Isaac: We dive deep into the "Abrahamic Test." Why would a God who abhors human sacrifice command this? We explore the parallels between Abraham offering Isaac and Heavenly Father offering His Only Begotten Son.

Life from Death: Using Paul’s words in Romans and Hebrews, we analyze how Abraham was able to obey because he accounted that "God was able to raise him up, even from the dead".

Jehovah-Jireh: We discuss the significance of the "ram in the thicket" and the name "The Lord Will Provide," exploring how God provides the lamb for us when we cannot provide it for ourselves.

The Burial of Sarah: We reflect on the end of Sarah’s mortal journey and the faith required to buy a piece of the Promised Land as a "possession of a buryingplace."

Call-to-Action: Have you ever had to surrender something you loved back to the Lord, trusting that He had a better plan? How did you find the strength to keep walking up your own "Mount Moriah"? Seismic shifts in the religious and secular landscapes are destabilizing the faith of millions. Join religious educator Jared Halverson as he explores restored scripture, doctrine, history, and practice; examines patterns and pitfalls in navigating faith crisis; and wrestles with ways to make your faith unshaken.___________Hello my friends, I’m Jared Halverson and this is Unshaken. I’ve spent my life studying the scriptures, my professional career teaching them, and my education at a Bible-belt divinity school exploring ways they have been used and abused, attacked and defended. And I’d like to share with you some of the things I’ve learned. In March of 2020 I created a YouTube channel called Unshaken, and six months later we hit our one millionth view, as people around the world are eagerly pursuing an unshaken faith in God by immersing themselves in His word. More and more viewers have been asking for an audio-only version of the lessons on Unshaken, and this podcast is my attempt to meet those needs. What it lacks in the visuals shown on YouTube, or the polished sound of a podcast-only production, it hopefully makes up for in its accessibility to the drivers, joggers, and multi-taskers out there who want to study their scriptures “on the go.” To you, welcome to our verse-by-verse, Come Follow Me study of the scriptures. I pray that it helps your faith in Christ become unshaken.__________Disclaimer: The content of these podcasts is the sole responsibility of their creator and does not reflect the official position of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or the Church Educational System.
